The Ohio State Buckeyes had a rough start to the 2023 college football season as they lost to the Missouri Tigers in the Cotton Bowl and ended the regular season with a loss to the Michigan Wolverines. However, Ohio State added a significant member to their staff, which they will surely hope will benefit the squad going into the upcoming season.
The Ohio State Buckeyes formally announced Bill O’Brien’s hiring as their new offensive coordinator on Friday morning. Before joining the Patriots this season as their offensive coordinator, O’Brien was the offensive coordinator for the Alabama Crimson Tide in 2021 and 2022. He has also held head coaching positions with the Penn State Nittany Lions and the Houston Texans.
Ohio State head coach Ryan Day said on Friday, “I am very pleased to be able to add Bill O’Brien to our coaching staff,” according to Eleven Warriors. “He brings with him an abundance of experience from both the NFL and collegiate ranks, as well as a great deal of success. Over his tenure, he has developed some extremely top players and overseen NFL and Power 5 teams. He is an excellent and seasoned offensive coach. He really enhances our personnel and will be a great teacher and recruiter for us.
It will be interesting to watch what adjustments O’Brien makes to the Ohio State offense.
