According to CaughtOffside, Dusan Vlahovic was Tottenham’s top center-forward target in January, but Santiago Gimenez took the lead.

The report claims that Spurs will give priority to signing a number nine in January after failing to sign an all-star striker to replace Harry Kane in the summer.

The source goes on to say that the Lilywhites have been “closely monitoring” Giménez over the past few months and that he has now become their “preferred option” to take over for Kane.

Should Spurs move for Gimenez or Vlahovic?

The news that Tottenham is considering Vlahovic as a backup player follows the revelation that the Serbian international is unlikely to sign a new deal at the Allianz Stadium.

It is clarified, though, that Juventus would not permit the 23-year-old to depart for nothing in January and that they will likely demand a price of around €80 million (£70 million) for the former Fiorentina star.

It’s interesting to note that CaughOffside does not list Spurs as a potential suitor for Ivan Toney, implying that Chelsea and Arsenal are in the running for the Brentford star.

This makes perfect sense because, in my opinion, the Spurs wouldn’t break their transfer record to acquire Toney in January. Gimenez is a player who appears to be within Tottenham’s budget and has the appropriate age profile.

Local reports state that Tottenham Hotspur sent scouts to watch this weekend’s Lisbon derby between Sporting and Benfica.

According to the Portuguese daily O Jogo, Spurs sent a representative to the match to observe two particular players. Pedro Gonçalves and Marcus Edwards are the stars of the Lions.

The publication begins by emphasizing that Tottenham has long been interested in the pair, having watched them “again” and taken additional notes on their performances.

Speaking of Marcus Edwards, the former Tottenham player, it should be noted that the London team still owns 35% of his potential sale, which might lead to a signing bonus.

He put on a strong display on Sunday, and he is rumored to have “never hid” his desire to return to England and play Premier League football. He currently has a €60 million release clause protecting him, but the club wants to increase it to €80 million.

O Jogo states that the negotiations “will be more complicated” in regards to Gonçalves. First of all, there are a lot more teams interested in signing him, and secondly, his release clause is already worth €80 million.

That’s a sizable sum of money for the two, so it will be interesting to see if Tottenham actually pursues them.
