‘Changed mind’: 22-year-old striker is now desperate to join Celtic – journalist

The last few days have seen a significant increase in Celtic’s January transfer window search of a striker.

The fans believed a new signing announcement was imminent because Sydney van Hooijdonk was strongly associated with the club this week.

But that conjecture has since subsided following Fabricio Romano’s overnight update, and it appears that Brendan Rodgers is now focusing on Republic of Ireland player Adam Idah.

According to reports, Celtic is reportedly in the running to recruit the 22-year-old. Journalist Mark Hendry revealed the striker for Norwich City’s response upon learning that the Parkhead club was interested in signing him.

Hendry stated on social media channel X, “Sydney van Hooijdonk has reached an agreement with Norwich.” Canaries refused to approve Adam Idah’s Celtic loan until they had a suitable alternative in place.

“That’s resolved now, so there are no more obstacles.”

Idah has six goals in 28 games this season while playing for The Canaries in the English Championship.

Idah, who is capped at the full international level for the Republic of Ireland, has made 20 appearances and scored twice in goal. Once against the Netherlands and, more notably, against Gibraltar. [Transfermarkt]

But the fact that he has had prior knee injuries may galvanize Celtic support. Idah has been sidelined for extended periods of time ever since he first hurt his knee in February 2021.

Due to a recurrence of the ailment, Idah has missed 62 games and spent 374 days on the treatment table. He hasn’t experienced any problems with it, though, since December 2022.

The Celtic transfer rumors appear to be picking up steam, and it will be interesting to watch how many players Brendan Rodgers adds to the roster before tomorrow night at midnight.
