Alasdair Gold says young Spurs forward has ‘wowed’ Postecoglou in training

Since Alejo Veliz’s return to full fitness, Alasdair Gold has claimed that Ange Postecoglou and his coaching team have been in awe of the striker.

Before joining the Lilywhites in the summer, Veliz scored 11 goals in 23 league games for Rosario Central this season, making him one of the most promising young attacking talents in Argentine football.

To acquire the center-forward this summer, Spurs reportedly beat out interest from a number of European teams (Fabrizio Romano – Here We Go Podcast).

Tottenham, though, sees the young player more as a prospect than as a finished product, with Postecoglou having said back in August that the player might not see a lot of action in the early going (Football.London).

Is Alejo Veliz being fast-tracked at Spurs?

Veliz may wind up playing a significant role for Spurs in the upcoming weeks due to their expanding injury list, and Gold has now revealed that the youngster has definitely got the attention of trainers.

“I think that’s a testament to Veliz,” the journalist said on the Gold and Guest podcast. “From what I understand, he has come into those training sessions after coming back from the injury he arrived with, and he’s absolutely wowed them.”

He has put in a lot of effort throughout training, and it appears that his finishing in particular is simply fantastic. I understand that the Premier League is a significant step, but I do believe that he might be prepared for it, especially with that big physique.

“I mean, he is a unit. Having stood near the ground and essentially strolled past, I can tell he is a large boy who towers over the players and coaches. Yes, I believe he is one of those people who, given a few minutes, surprises everyone by coming up with something.

We are aware that Postecoglou will trust younger players if they do well enough throughout practice. So, given the injury issue Spurs are currently experiencing, Veliz and Gil both have a fantastic opportunity to establish themselves over the coming weeks.
