‘That’s what I thought’: Gary Neville thinks 23-year-old Spurs target is leaving after developments last night
Gary Neville thinks Chelsea may have hinted on Tuesday night that they would be willing to let go of Conor Gallagher, who is wanted by Tottenham Hotspur.
Chelsea defeated Middlesbrough with such style that they guaranteed their place in the Carabao Cup final. 1-0 was the deficit for Mauricio Pochettino’s team following the first-leg at Riverside Stadium. But yesterday night, the Blues defeated the opposition 6-1 to advance to Wembley.
It’s interesting to note that Conor Gallagher started the second leg on the bench. Midway through the second half, the 23-year-old came off the bench and contributed two assists.
However, there are rumors that the England international might depart.

Gallagher may be pursued by Tottenham before the January transfer window shuts. And although you would think that the Blues would not typically allow him to leave, after making such significant investments in the last two years, they might have to take serious offers for some of their players.
When Gary Neville first spoke on Sky Sports (which aired on January 23 at 19:00), he questioned whether Gallagher was indeed going. And he said that thought had indeed occurred to him when the pundit pointed out that Pochettino’s choice had done little to quell rumors.
“Well, that’s what I initially believed when I received the team sheet. It has come to the point where you are forced to sell one of your own players, who is doing rather well, in order to pay for it because you have spent so much money on it, he added.
Spurs may look to ask the question before deadline
It would come as a huge surprise if Tottenham were able to come to an agreement on a deal for Gallagher before the deadline, considering how quiet this January window has been.
Nevertheless, it must be acknowledged that Spurs have been active thus far, having signed Radu Dragusin and Timo Werner. Therefore, they could be inclined to at least inquire if they have their sights set on Gallagher.
The fact that he was not selected to start in the semifinal may only heighten their desire to see how determined Chelsea is to hold onto him.
