‘Trust the process’: Postecoglou points out major area for improvement amidst spurs Impressive run

Ange Postecoglou praised his players in his post-game news conference this evening for coming back from the loss in midweek and for falling behind early against Burnley. The Tottenham boss did, however, point out an area where he would like to see progress.

It’s easy to assume that Spurs needed a strong response today after being eliminated from the Carabao Cup on Tuesday evening by Fulham in a penalty shootout.

Ange Postecoglou’s team put the disappointment of the cup loss behind them and focused on their unbeaten start in the Premier League once they were back in action.

However, when Burnley took the lead at Turf Moor this afternoon after four minutes, fans might have been concerned. Thoughts of concern were quickly allayed as Spurs captain Heung-min Son equalized the score just over ten minutes later.

Just before halftime, Cristian Romero gave the away team the lead, completely changing the tone of the second half. From that point on, Spurs took the lead and controlled the game.

James Maddison’s beautiful strike from outside the box made things even easier for Spurs, and then a Son double solidified not only the three points but also his hat-trick.

Postecoglou wanted a reaction from his players

Tottenham achieved a terrific result today, but it also demonstrated how resilient the group can be under duress. And Postecoglou acknowledged as much in his press conference following the game.

He said to Football.London: “Today was definitely good. Going down a goal again puts you to the test, and following midweek, you’re especially interested in the players’ reactions.

“I thought they were outstanding in just remaining really composed and level-headed while playing our football and we grew more comfortable with the game,” the player said.

“Once we figured it out, I believe we were in charge of pretty much everything. In the front third, we may have been a little bit wasteful in the first half, but we were incredibly clinical in the second. The way the players handled the difficulties we faced today deserves the highest credit.

With each another victory under their belts, the Spurs’ makeover squad has shown more evidence that goals will not be difficult to score. Postecoglou must be pleased with how his players handled the midweek setback and the difficulty of recovering from a goal down while playing away from home.
