Definitely happening: The 10 Leeds United players who are currently set to leave in 2024

Leeds United saw a big squad exodus over the past summer, and while different factors may be at play the following summer, the Whites may find themselves saying goodbye to a number of players come June.

Up to 10 Leeds players have contracts expiring in the coming year, so we decided to look at them, their current situations, and whether it is reasonable to expect them to stay with the team.

Cody Drameh’s chances of agreeing to new terms at Elland Road are basically nonexistent.

The youthful right-back has frequently cut a peripheral figure for unknown reasons and has never been able to inspire the same performances for Leeds as he did when out on loan at Cardiff City and Luton Town.

Drameh was brought on and then brought back in the space of 21 minutes during last weekend’s 4-3 win at Ipswich Town and has recently headed out on his third loan spell, this time to Birmingham City.

Make no mistake about it, that will be his last one from Leeds.

Robin Koch

In a similar vein, German international Robin Koch is now on loan from Leeds and won’t be coming back.

Koch is one of many well-known players that left Leeds after their relegation to the Championship. Koch is currently back on loan with Eintracht Frankfurt in his native Germany, and when his contract expires next summer, he will be moving permanently.

Helder Costa

Helder Costa is another player that will inevitably leave Leeds.

However, unlike the aforementioned pair, that should occur before his contract is officially up the following summer, as the winger earlier in the summer disqualified himself from consideration by Daniel Farke together with Wilfried Gnonto and Luis Sinisterra.

Costa’s actions, however, have backfired miserably as he has been forced to practice alone without having yet secured a club, all the while Gnonto has been promoted to the starting lineup and Sinisterra has finally achieved his goal of staying in a top level by joining Bournemouth.

Graham Smyth of the Yorkshire Evening Post claims that Costa is still anticipated to depart soon and that this could take the form of a transfer to Saudi Arabia.

Costa, who spent the previous season on loan with Al Ittihad, might be scheduled for a return to Saudi Arabia soon because their transfer window lasts longer than that of Europe.

All parties involved will want to forget about this disastrous signing as soon as possible, but Leeds might keep him on their books until 2024 if a deal cannot be immediately reached.

Ian Poveda

Ian Poveda’s future with the team, meanwhile, is currently even more undetermined.

The small playmaker has yet to live up to the high hopes that were raised when he moved from Manchester City more than three years ago.

Despite making an impression in preseason and spending the whole of the season on the periphery of Farke’s squad, he has failed to make any headway while on loan with Blackburn Rovers and then Blackpool in the Championship.

Although there is unquestionably potential, the development has undoubtedly not gone according to plan as of yet.

This one is still up in the air.

Stuart Dallas

Whether Stuart Dallas will be given new terms past next summer is also doubtful.

Of course, the fan favorite for the Whites suffered a terrible femoral fracture against Manchester City in April 2022 and hasn’t played since.

At 32 years old, it is difficult to suggest that Dallas has a strong case for renewal at this time, and Leeds supporters will be hoping that changes with a full recovery.

Luke Ayling

Reliable right-back Luke Ayling, who is also 32, has started every game for Leeds thus far and, unlike Dallas, has a clear medical history. He has also been a constant for Leeds.

Being a Leeds player since 2016, it is unlikely that this will change next summer, though you would naturally anticipate that new terms will be put on the table at some point.

Jamie Shackleton

Jamie Shackleton’s future at Leeds had also been in question, but after some impressive, spirited early-season performances, he has forced his way into Farke’s consideration and now has a strong possibility of signing a new contract for the following year.

Of course, there is still a ways to go, but if the utility man keeps up his current Elland Road revival, there is really no reason a new contract shouldn’t be arriving.

Lewis Bate

Who knows whether Lewis Bate will put pen to paper at the minute.

The former Chelsea prospect spent last season on loan in the third tier with Oxford United and impressed by all accounts, but he was unable to seal another temporary stint over the summer and is currently waiting for opportunities to get on the pitch this term.

Unless he makes a sudden surge into the German’s plans, a departure for nothing next summer looks on the cards.

Liam Cooper

All things considered, Whites captain Liam Cooper should receive fresh terms, with his current contract set to expire next June.

At present, he is on the treatment table after falling down with an injury in Leeds’ opener against Cardiff, and though he is not getting any younger, his experience should still make him worth keeping around.

Expect shorter terms than the four-year deal he signed in 2019 to be offered at some point this season.

Sam Byram

The full-back made a return to West Yorkshire last month on an initial one-year deal.

The jury remains out at this stage, but Byram has previously proved an impressive operator at this level and could well receive an extension if he has the desired impact.
