James Maddison sends hilarious message to Ben Chilwell after his Chelsea display against Luton
Ben Chilwell of Chelsea has received some joking criticism on Instagram from close buddy James Maddison tonight.
On Friday night, Chelsea secured an important first win of the Premier League campaign by defeating Luton Town at home, 3-0.
Nicolas Jackson and Raheem Sterling both scored goals to give the Blues a comfortable victory.
Due to Reece James’ absence, Ben Chilwell assumed the captaincy duties for the home team and continued to play as a wing-back for Mauricio Pochettino’s team, allowing him to advance quite far up the field.
Surprisingly, the 26-year-old did miss a prime opportunity to score himself in the second half.
The English fullback was in position to score after making it into the penalty area, but his effort to slip pass to Sterling was intercepted.
Chilwell made light of his own personal gaffe in an Instagram post that was published right after the game.
The Tottenham star Maddison responded in the comments section with a hilarious statement. The fact that Maddison attacked the Chelsea defender shows how well the former teammates from Leicester get along off the field.
Chilwell wrote on Instagram: “Absolute honour to lead the boys out tonight at the Bridge. Ps. Shooting practise for me tomorrow.”
Maddison replied: “You don’t need to practice shooting bro, you need to practice deciding to shoot.”
Chilwell is typically a reliable choice when it comes to full-backs who can score goals, but a moment of insanity cost him a great opportunity to score against Luton.
Fortunately, it had no effect on the outcome for his team, so he can laugh about it now.
The Chilwell incident was described as “awful” by Jamie Carragher during live commentary on Sky Sports.

Despite being officially registered as a La Liga player on Thursday, Lenglet is still reportedly planning to leave the Catalan powerhouses, according to Spanish publication AS. In order to move through with a deal to acquire Joao Cancelo from Manchester City, it is thought that Barcelona must let go of a few players from their roster.
Lenglet’s fate, according to the source, will be in the Premier League and “more specifically Tottenham,” though they don’t specify whether it would be a permanent arrangement or another loan move.
