Tottenham’s £25m man faces transfer reality as Ange Postecoglou plots masterplan

Ryan Sessegnon is set to have a pivotal summer at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as he attempts to break into Ange Postecoglou’s plans for the 2023/24 season.

Four years after joining Tottenham Hotspur, Spurs fans are still expecting to see the best of Ryan Sessegnon. The left-sided player was signed in a £25 million transfer from Fulham after shining for the west London club in the Championship. His tenure at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium has been plagued by a slew of injuries.

As a result, the 23-year-old has had a hit-or-miss Tottenham career so far, with only 56 appearances in all competitions for the Lilywhites. It remains to be seen what will happen with Sessegnon under new head coach Ange Postecoglou, who will assess all of the players at his disposal before making a choice on the roster.

This summer will be crucial for Sessegnon, who will enter the final two years of his six-year contract with Tottenham after moving from Fulham in August 2019. Injuries have played a major part in his Spurs woes, with a hamstring issue curtailing his 2022/23 campaign and leaving him on the sidelines a lot longer than expected. Making 23 appearances in all competitions last season, Sessegnon’s last Spurs outing came off the bench for the final 11 minutes in the 1-0 home win over Man City at the beginning of February.

Following a major hamstring injury, the athlete is now close to full fitness and will be ready to go in preseason. Summer training for Tottenham’s non-international players usually starts on the first Monday in July, but gamehuz knows that some players will return two days earlier this time, on Saturday July 1, Postecoglou’s first official day of work at Spurs.

Sessegnon must make an immediate impression on the new manager before pre-season begins, as he faces stiff competition for the left-back position. Ben Davies, who has spent the last 18 months playing on the left side of a back three under Antonio Conte, will be an option, with Destiny Udogie ready to join the Tottenham club for the first time after a loan spell with Udinese last season.
