Manchester United star admits retiring at Old Trafford is now becoming a ‘serious option’

Despite a difficult first season at Manchester United, Raphael Varane’s signing has been a huge success.

Erik ten Hag has heavily relied on the centre-back since taking over at Old Trafford, frequently pairing him with Lisandro Martnez, and with him retiring from international football at the age of 29, he will devote more time to club football.

Ahead of France’s match against the Netherlands, GQ in France sat down with the Manchester United defender to discuss his career, past, present, and future, and they asked him about his next steps.

The big question was whether he would sign with another club or retire with the Red Devils, with whom he has a contract until 2025.

“I will finish my career either at Real Madrid, Manchester United, or at Lens,” he said, adding that it was a “serious option.” I am certain that I will not join another club, but Madrid appears to be complicated. In general, you don’t return. Most likely, I’ll end up in Manchester or Lens.”

After playing football since the age of seven, the defender is obviously hesitant to call it quits, but knows it’s a decision he’ll have to make at some point.

Rest assured, Manchester United fans, he isn’t seriously considering it just yet, but it has crossed his mind as he approaches his 30th birthday.

Varane has appeared in all competitions for the Red Devils 27 times this season.
