Tottenham verbally agree £17.2m deal to sign goalkeeper

Tottenham are poised to make a formal proposal for Empoli goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario on Thursday, and Empoli have suggested that it would be accepted. Tottenham are also interested in signing Brentford goalkeeper David Raya, but are unwilling to pay the £40 million asking price.

Spurs are poised to submit a formal bid on Thursday, with Empoli indicating that it will be approved.

In addition to the initial €20 million price, the agreement contains bonuses.

Guglielmo, a 26-year-old Italian, has made 71 appearances for Empoli since arriving on loan from Cagliari in 2021.

Tottenham are interested in signing Brentford goalkeeper David Raya but are unwilling to pay the £40 million asking price.

Raya has a year left on his contract and is unlikely to sign a new deal.

Tottenham’s current No 1 Hugo Lloris has publicly said he wants to leave for a fresh challenge.

Leicester want £50m for Maddison

Spurs are interested in James Maddison and have made initial contact with Leicester.

Leicester want a fee in excess of £50m, amid strong interest from Newcastle too.

Despite being demoted and with only one year left on his contract, the Foxes see Maddison as their most valuable asset and will not back down from their assessment.

Newcastle and Tottenham are both pushing for Maddison and are confident in their ability to bring him to their clubs.

Newcastle will definitely want to entice him with Champions League football, but Spurs are hoping he will want to be a part of Ange Postecoglou’s plans and prefer living in London.

Spurs are also understood to have asked about winger Harvey Barnes.
