Cowboys star Zack Martin ‘happy’ Jets trade fell through

Jamal Adams’ dream scenario would have been Zack Martin’s nightmare.

While the Jets safety admitted last week he would’ve loved to have been traded to his hometown Cowboys, Martin was relieved to see the potential deal involving him fall apart. The Cowboys reportedly offered a first-round pick and a third-day pick for Adams, but balked at the Jets’ desire to include the five-time Pro Bowl offensive guard.

“Happy they didn’t entertain it,” Martin told the Dallas Morning News. “But I try not to look too much into that kinda stuff. A lot of that stuff is news for fans just to look at. I don’t get caught up in that.”

Adams, who was angered that the Jets would even take phone calls regarding his availability, later made it clear the Cowboys was his preferred destination, if he was dealt.

“I would love to go to [the Cowboys],” Adams said. “I am born and raised in Dallas.”

Martin was drafted by the Cowboys in the first round in 2014, and has helped anchor the league’s best offensive line for years. The 28-year-old signed a six-year, $84 million contract extension ($40 million guaranteed) in 2018. The failed deal would have sent Martin from the NFC East leaders to the rebuilding, 1-7 Jets.

The Jets’ offensive line is considered one of the worst in football.

“I’m happy,” Martin said. “I’m glad I’m still here and hopefully here for a long time.”
