‘You can’t say that man’ – Eden Hazard blasts Mikel Obi for what he just said about Tottenham
Since as long as anyone can remember, Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea have been bitter rivals. Blues great Eden Hazard was quick to admonish his old teammate John Obi Mikel never to ever shout their praises.
Since Ange Postecoglou took over as manager of Spurs last summer, the team has outperformed Stamford Bridge. Spurs are now a formidable force in the Premier League.
Under former Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino, Chelsea are currently having trouble winning the league, although Spurs are one of the favorites to finish in the top four and were originally predicted to contend for the championship.
After 25 games, the North London team is ranked fifth in the table, two points clear of fourth-place Aston Villa, while the Blues are ranked tenth and fourteen points outside of the top four.
Hazard voiced his worries about his former team and insisted that Pochettino was not to blame because the Premier League had been more competitive.
On the most recent episode of The Obi One Podcast, Mikel Obi brought up Tottenham as a team that is currently superior to Chelsea. The Belgian, however, had none of it and promptly corrected the Nigerian.
Hazard: “As you can see, I believe Manchester City to be superior to Chelsea. Liverpool, as you can see, is superior to Chelsea.
“Tottenham?” asks Obi.
Hazard: “Tottenham is not, no.”
Obi: “However, they are playing a little bit better right now. They are currently ranked third or fourth in the league and are playing better.
“They play good football,” said Hazard. Yes, indeed. However, you are familiar with Tottenham. You also can’t say that man because you’re a Chelsea legend.”
“I’m not saying they are going to win the league, but right now,” stated Obi.
Risk: “That’s without a doubt.”
“Tottenham and Arsenal are definitely not going to win the league,” said Obi.
No Chelsea supporter can honestly acknowledge that Spurs have been superior this season and still wish them well.
The North Londoners will probably finish ahead of the Blues this season, but when his team plays Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final later this month, Pochettino will be itching to win his first-ever trophy in England.
Despite all the excellent football they are currently playing, Spurs are set to conclude another season without a trophy as their long drought continues. Chelsea would have had a better season than them if they had won the League Cup and Tottenham had not advanced to the Champions League.
