Who could Tottenham sign before the window closes?
According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, the Lilywhites and Fati had discussed moving the 20-year-old on a temporary loan from his parent club Barcelona to north London. However, in a shocking turn of events, Fati decided to sign with Brighton and Hove Albion instead.
In the wake of that rejection, the Daily Mail has since stated that Brennan Johnson, a standout for Nottingham Forest, is’set to make a late bid’ to join Spurs. Top-flight opponents Brentford are also currently in negotiations to sign the Wales international.
Ange Postecoglou, an ex-manager of Celtic, is believed to be a “big fan” of the 22-year-old forward who, according to the article, has a reported price tag of over £50 million. The forward has impressed Postecoglou with his exceptional mobility and flexibility to feature all across the front line.
How good is Brennan Johnson?
Johnson seems like a good fit because he already showed himself in the Premier League last season, and Postecoglou and company have been forced to seek elsewhere as Fati appears to be on his way to the Amex.
The Nottingham native won’t likely have to try to fill Harry Kane’s shoes at N17, as the new Bayern Munich player scored 280 goals during a productive run in the capital, but he could give a rather underwhelming attacking unit more competition.
Although Postecoglou now has players like Dejan Kulusevski, Heung-min Son, Manor Solomon, and Richarlison to choose from, there is little depth in the forward ranks outside of that group, which is why it is urgent to reinforce.
Along with Kane, the Lilywhites lost Brazilian winger Lucas Moura after more than five years of service. Moura, 30, is best known for leading Tottenham to the Champions League final in 2019 after scoring a hat trick against Ajax.
Despite that outstanding performance in Amsterdam, the small speedster had a difficult time of it while wearing a Spurs jersey; he only ever scored ten goals in a Premier League season, which was in 2018–19.
Johnson, who had eight league goals in his first season of top-flight football while Moura had just six in his final three English seasons, is expected to soon be able to surpass that total based on his performances from last season.
The Forest dynamo, praised as “wonderful” by national team manager Rob Page, distinguished himself by showcasing his artistic flare during that outstanding 2022–23 season by producing four huge chances from his 38 appearances, whereas Moura, in comparison, failed to provide a single major opportunity from his 15 outings.
