Report: Striker is in a tricky spot – Spurs can’t loan him out to another club
Dane Scarlett, who was on loan at Ipswich Town, could be called up by Tottenham Hotspur in January, but he would not be permitted to play for another team this year.
Dane Scarlett is one of Tottenham’s most promising young talents among all of the others. After making a few first-team appearances and scoring his first senior goal in a friendly during the summer, the striker found himself at a bit of a turning point in his young career.
Scarlett had the option to go out on loan and gain some first-team experience, or he could have played the entire season on the fringes of Ange Postecoglou’s team. Scarlett decided to sign with Championship new boys Ipswich, but so far, the 19-year-old’s plan hasn’t quite worked out.
Ipswich Town is presently in second place in the Championship and is playing very well. Scarlett has thus had difficulty finding opportunities and has only played 11 substitute appearances for a total of 146 minutes (Transfermarkt).
In a piece from Football.London looking at the Spurs players currently on loan at other clubs, it is suggested that Scarlett “could technically be recalled” by the North London side in January. However, there is a problem with that.
Scarlett would be unable to sign with another team if he were to return to Spurs because he played for the Lilywhites in the Carabao Cup this season. Therefore, calling up Scarlett might only be necessary if joining Postecoglou’s team will allow the young player to be “better served.”
Scarlett “may just have to bide his time” at Ipswich because “the pathway” at Spurs is reportedly just as congested at the moment.
Right now, I really care about Scarlett, and I wish he could join a different club. Having said that, he might as well be back at Spurs given how much time he has spent playing for Ipswich.
