Leeds United avoid takeover punishment in new twist as leaks banned – Finance Guru

We’re delighted to welcome football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United...

Dan Plumley has insisted that Leeds United and the 49ers Enterprises got their takeover done at just the right time as the EFL green light new regulations.

The Athletic has reported that EFL clubs are set to be banned from announcing takeovers are agreed subject to league approval, and the likely punishment being fines.

Leeds did just that before this was announced, with similar “leaks” in the future said to be against regulations, although Plumley believes this won’t be an issue.

“It was probably a good time to get it through,” he exclusively told MOT Leeds News.

“Now it is over the line with the club confirming that. Again, it is one of those things where you have to react to the environment around you and Leeds United know the takeover has been there a long time.

We know that level of detail won’t be allowed to leak out in the future regarding takeovers, so it’s another interesting one in terms of regulation.

It looks as though Leeds have just managed to get this in at the right time so there shouldn’t be any issues with that one given there is a lot of retrospective backtracking with this one.”

It would be no surprise to see the EFL backtrack given that it is Leeds United.

There is total confidence in the 49ers Enterprises and Paraag Marathe though, who have gone about everything in exactly the right manner and are now only looking forward.

Bring on an exciting first year
