Jose Mourinho contacts Eric Dier over January move

According to reports, AS Roma manager Jose Mourinho has spoken with Eric Dier, a 29-year-old Tottenham utility player, about a potential January transfer.

AS Roma is reportedly interested in Eric Dier, per a report from the Italian publication Tutto Mercato Web. During the January transfer window, Jose Mourinho hopes to get back together with the 29-year-old utility player at Stadio Olimpico. However, the Serie A powerhouses aren’t quite sure they should go on the attack this winter.

Since coming from Sporting CP to Tottenham Hotspur in July 2014, Eric Dier has had a wild ride. The English international, who is in his tenth season with the North London club, has experienced times when he has been a mainstay in the defense or midfield. However, since Ange Postecoglou moved into the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, his reputation has completely collapsed.

Only 56 minutes of playing time have been accrued by the 29-year-old utility man so far this season. That occurred on Monday against Chelsea as a result of a central defensive unit crisis. Dier, meanwhile, is approaching the last year of his Tottenham contract and is not likely to agree to a new one with the North London team.

According to recent reports, Dier is prepared to finish out his Tottenham contract and may decide to become a free agent in the summer. However, during the January transfer window, Jose Mourinho hopes to sign the English utility player to play for AS Roma.

According to rumors from a month ago, Dier was prepared to relocate to Italy in order to rejoin Jose Mourinho. When the Portuguese tactician was at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, the 29-year-old had a strong run of play. It is therefore not shocking that he is prepared to play for Mourinho once more.

The English international’s transfer to Stadio Olimpico is being pushed by the former Tottenham manager. However, the board members of AS Roma are reluctant to approve a January transfer. Dier’s contract is about to expire, and since they can sign him for nothing next summer, that is the main motivation behind the position. It also makes no sense to commit to a winter signing given Mourinho’s precarious position at the Serie A team.

Because of Chris Smalling’s injury-related absence, Mourinho is keen to add a center back during the January transfer window. Tottenham, meanwhile, may not obstruct Dier’s path and will likely advocate for his departure in January. It will be intriguing to watch if the 29-year-old utility player joins AS Roma in an attempt to work with Mourinho again.
