James Maddison gives injury update and hints at when he may return for Tottenham

James Maddison, a standout for Tottenham, has provided an update on his ankle injury recuperation.

The midfielder was substituted off of the team prior to the half in Spurs’ 4-1 loss to Chelsea, and the team has not won a match since.

It was quickly discovered that Maddison would not be able to play until the New Year due to damage to his ankle ligament.

Considering his pre-injury efforts, his £40 million summer transfer from Leicester has earned him the title of one of the season’s signings.

Spurs supporters may have to wait a bit longer for his comeback, although Maddison has stated that he is healing nicely.

“It’s healing well, it’s a bit of a slow burner which is obviously frustrating because like you said, I started the season so well,” Ben Foster said in an interview with Amazon Prime Video Sport. But gently but surely, it is healing.

Madison said, “I’ve had a couple, this is probably the longest one I’ve had if it’s say three months, I’ve never really gone past that,” in response to the question of whether he had ever had an injury before.

“You know what it’s like to be injured? Every day is difficult, especially at Spurs. The physio room looks out to the training pitch perfectly, where all the boys are currently practicing and getting ready for the games. It’s frustrating.”

“You feel helpless, but it’s healing well; it’s one of them; it will take some time; you just have to accept that and move on with the treatment.”

Foster then inquired as to whether a return would be possible in roughly six or seven weeks, to which Maddison said, “Yeah, something like that.”

Maddison had been playing in the Premier League for 11 games, with three goals and five assists, when Chelsea came to town.

He was replaced shortly before the half as the Spurs suffered their first league loss of the year against the Blues.

They lost three straight games after that, falling to Wolves and Aston Villa 2-1.

However, Dejan Kulusevski’s late equalizer at Manchester City on Sunday forced a 3-3 draw, ending Spurs’ losing run.

Although Maddison’s exact return date is unknown, assuming six to seven weeks is the appropriate amount of time, he might make his return in their home game against Brentford at the end of January.
