HOOVER, Ala. (WIAT) — Another week of high school football is in the books, and Friday night did not disappoint.

Hoover won in overtime 27-26 over Thompson for the 7A Region 3 title. There were several superstars that night. However, one shined the brightest.

CBS 42’s Athlete of the Week is Hoover wide receiver Jonah Winston. The junior receiver was the enforcer against the Warriors, finishing with 137 yards and two touchdowns. He also took snaps under center and holds for the kicker during extra point opportunities.

“He’s a dude, right. He’s a player, man. He just gets it done no matter what,” said Hoover head football coach Chip English.

“It’s just grit,” said Winston. “My guys upfront said they got me, and I just followed them and that is what I did. They made it easy for me, and both of my touchdowns I remained untouched. We have been through more than anybody else in the state. Losing both of our coaches in the beginning of the season and coming in and having a whole interim head coach. Coach English did a good job coming in and preaching to us every day that being divided is not going to win us anything.”
