For Celtic’s upcoming games, Brendan Rodgers will need to recruit a new left-back, underscoring their paucity of transfer activity.
Greg Taylor will not be present when the team sheet for the game against Ross County is released tomorrow. Taylor has started all 30 games this season across four competitions.
Most supporters anticipated that a left-back would be signed when the transfer market opened, but during the weekend, there were rumors that Owen Beck, a Liverpool player who had been on loan at Dundee, was being considered.
That possibility was dashed when Beck entered the game late in the 4-0 victory over Bournemouth off the bench, forcing Rodgers to wing defense for a crucial stretch of games that included travels to Aberdeen, Hibs, and St Mirren.
In an interview with the Daily Record, the Celtics manager said:
It will take Greg a few weeks to return. He noticed a small discomfort in his calf towards the weekend game. It is unfortunate that he is no longer with us, as he has shown remarkable and reliable play thus far this season.
Alexandro Bernabei was Taylor’s regular backup last season, but so far this year the Argentinean has only made four substitute appearances, the most recent of which occurred in the team’s home loss to Hearts one month ago.
Liam Scales may be pulled out of position to take Taylor’s place tomorrow; alternatively, Mitchel Frame, who is back to full strength following an outstanding Champions League cameo at home against Feyenoord, might start.
