‘As things stand’ – Journalist shoots transfer warning to Tottenham and Levy

Spurs’ strong start to the season cannot be wasted, according to Darren Lewis of The Mirror.

Daniel Levy must relinquish control of the team’s finances if Tottenham is to have a realistic chance of placing in the top four.

Even with consecutive defeats to Chelsea and Wolves, Spurs are still only two points behind league leaders Manchester City after 12 games.

Ange Postecoglou has undoubtedly surpassed expectations in his first few months, but at the Molineux Stadium, Tottneham’s lack of depth in the squad was starkly displayed.

Lewis said that the North London team has already identified a few targets and that they would look to address that in January.

“As things stand, Spurs are doing well, scoring goals and in the top four where no one expected them to be at the start of the season,” the journalist stated on The Kelly & Wrighty Show.

Given how well they’re playing and how close they are to the top four, I believe that Aston Villa is the one team that the Spurs management really takes into account. Spurs need to remain competitive, and in order to do so, they need to add more players in January.

“They really need another defender and another striker, in my opinion. Son has performed incredibly well, but he cannot be completely trusted. They’ll probably already be searching and have some players in mind, in my opinion. They attempted to obtain one or two during the summer but were unsuccessful. But they’ll make an effort to let others in.

Daniel Levy needs to commit to Ange in January

Lewis cautioned the club that if they don’t make any investments in the upcoming transfer window, they run the risk of losing the excellent start. Spurs typically do most of their business in the summer rather than in January.

“They have performed too well thus far to throw it all away by waiting until next summer, and when you look at the other players around them, who are performing so well, to then kind of give up and wait until the summer when other teams are buying, recruiting well, and progressing,” he continued. That would be incredibly foolish, and before they know it, they might have to abandon it.

I expect Tottenham to be very busy in the window, regardless of the messages they are sending out before January about the amount of money they have available to spend. To give Ange a chance to build on this strong start, I see three new faces coming through the door.
