‘Love it’: Micky van de Ven and James Maddison left amazed by 22-year-old Tottenham player yesterday

Following their team’s victory over Brighton yesterday, James Maddison and Micky van de Ven of Tottenham Hotspur both lauded Brennan Johnson on social media.

The Welshman gave Tottenham a vital three points on Saturday afternoon with a goal in stoppage time.

After Pascal Gross’ penalty in the 17th minute, Ange Postecoglou’s team was down at the half. However, goals from Brendan Johnson and Pape Matar Sarr completed a much-better second half effort.

Heung-Min Son, the Tottenham captain, set up Johnson for the game-winning goal. Johnson hammered home the excellent ball at the back post.

It’s also reasonable to suggest that James Maddison and Micky van de Ven were impressed by Johnson’s brief appearance.

Following yesterday’s game, Johnson uploaded a photo of himself on Instagram, rejoicing in his late victory.

His teammates gathered below the post to give him congrats on helping Spurs secure three points.

Along with Spurs loanee Djed Spence, Maddison, Van de Ven, and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg all wrote remarks below.

It’s no secret that Johnson has faced a great deal of criticism lately. The 22-year-old’s poor performance of late sent him to the bench yesterday.

Johnson appeared to be in for another nearly-day yesterday, as he found himself in a couple of favorable spots but lacked conviction in the closing third.

However, he deserves credit for showing up just in time to see the end of Heung-Min Son’s speech.

Johnson hasn’t yet played to his full capacity with the Spurs, but he has certainly displayed some of his talent.

The former Nottingham Forest player may require more time from Tottenham supporters while he continues to acclimate to Postecoglou’s demands.
