‘Made Ange’s mind up’: Stuart Pearce thinks Postecoglou wants to sell £85k-a-week Tottenham player now
Stuart Pearce thinks Ange Postecoglou might consider offloading Eric Dier, the defender for Tottenham Hotspur.
Tottenham, who are presently four points behind league leaders Arsenal in the top four, have had a successful start to life under new manager Ange Postecoglou.
The Australian manager has totally turned Spurs into an attacking, front-footed squad.
It’s safe to argue that several players who were important under previous managers have fallen out of favor this season as a result of the significant shift in approach.
Eric Dier is one player who has had difficulty getting minutes this season; in the Premier League, the Englishman has only made three appearances.
This season, Dier has only achieved one start in the league, making two appearances off the bench.There have been rumors that the 29-year-old may be moving next month, and teams like Napoli are reportedly interested.
As of late, Stuart Pearce has expressed his belief that Postecoglou may have already decided on Dier’s fate.
Pearce says Postecoglou could sell Dier
In an interview with Express Sport, Pearce expressed his belief that Dier may soon leave Tottenham.
The legendary English football player stated, “There’s every chance [he could leave] if you’re not a first-team starter at his age.”
Ange may have decided to move on from him as a result of it. He’s been watching him for the past several months, and Van van Ven demonstrated that he can play in that role due to his pace in Tottenham’s high-court press, which leaves them extremely vulnerable at the back.
The athletes that do participate in the game must be comfortable playing one-on-one or two-on-two. He needs to have faith that the two mobile players at the core of his back line can withstand the pressure of a full-court press and the resulting exposure.
“Eric Dier might consider this a good time to move on, as he owes Tottenham nothing.”
In the 2-1 victory over Everton on Saturday, Dier made an uncommon league appearance by replacing the injured Cristian Romero off the bench.
Romero was pulled off due to hamstring stiffness, but he should be available for Thursday’s match against Brighton.
It’s no secret that, after Micky van de Ven’s injury in January, Spurs are looking for a replacement center back.
Given that Dier’s contract is slated to expire in the summer and he currently earns £85,000 per week, it will be interesting to see if he stays after the January transfer window.
