As far as Tottenham Hotspur is concerned, things are also looking good. New manager Ange Postecoglou has had a stellar first month in charge after leading his team to four straight Premier League victories that have kept them in the mix for the top spot.

The former Celtic manager appears to have benefited from the audacious and courageous choices he took over the past few months, including giving players like Eric Dier and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg a less role and replacing Hugo Lloris in goal, a long-serving asset.

Not only those three individuals, but Brazilian full-back Emerson Royal has also recently fallen in the right flank’s hierarchy as a result of the 58-year-old’s arrival.

How much did Tottenham pay for Emerson Royal?

The former Barcelona player, who moved to Camp Nou back in the summer of 2021, has only started one league game this year after losing his spot to Pedro Porro at right-back. The 25-year-old hasn’t been able to capitalise on his mini-resurgence from the previous season.

The £25.8 million acquisition overcame his struggles in English football to emerge as a prominent player in the turbulent second half of the previous season. According to club insider John Wenham, it appeared as though the defender had first been “spurred on” by the arrival of Porro.

Wenham called the player’s performance against Manchester City earlier this year “unbelievable,” but it may be difficult to ignore the £40k-per-week player’s previous dismal performances after talkSPORT’s Jamie O’Hara called him a “disaster” back in November.

Because of his “dreadful” performances, journalist Josh Bunting was even harsher on the former Real Betis midfielder the month before, calling him “possibly the worst player to play for Tottenham in my lifetime.”

Despite any advancements he may have made since then, there were still rumors throughout the summer that Spurs wanted to sell the player, which is why it might not be long before he is replaced in Postecoglou’s squad.

The Greek-Aussie would want to take Tyrell Ashcroft into consideration if he’s seeking for a viable replacement to compete with Pedro Porro at right-back…

Who is Tyrell Ashcroft?

The 18-year-old had been given four senior appearances for the Royals before to that departure and had previously been labeled as “promising” by journalist Andy Preston after joining the north Londoners from Reading last year. The young player had received high praise from then-boss Veljko Paunovic:

Ashcroft is now healthy and on fire in the Spurs junior setup, which is good news for him and the club. Emerson will probably need to be on his toes if the Englishman can repeat the great first impression he made while playing for Reading.

It would not be surprising if another young player, like as Ashcroft, were to join the first squad sooner rather than later given that Postecoglou has already placed his trust in players like Destiny Udogie and Pape Matar Sarr this season.
