Report: Conte signing told he’s now free to leave Tottenham with emotional transfer wanted

Tottenham Hotspur veteran  has been told that he is free to leave the club this summer amid links to Hajduk Split.

Ivan Perisic has been informed that he is free to leave Tottenham Hotspur this summer.

That is according to the Daily Mail, who claim that Perisic has been ‘told he can leave if the right move comes up’.

Perisic joined Tottenham on a free transfer last summer as his Inter Milan deal came to an end.

Antonio Conte was keen to reunite with Perisic having worked together at Inter, even winning a league title together in 2021.

Conte brought Perisic in to play as a left wing back, believing that his experience would be vital for this Tottenham side.

The move didn’t really work out as planned even though Perisic started 23 Premier League games and made 11 substitute appearances.

Eight assists in those games wasn’t a terrible record either but Perisic didn’t quite elevate Tottenham as hoped.

Ange Postecoglou has now replaced Conte and is switching from a 3-4-3 to a 4-3-3.

That changes Perisic’s role massively; the wing back role doesn’t exist in that setup and Perisic wouldn’t really fit as a full back in a four, so he has been featuring as a winger.

That was Perisic’s best role earlier in his career and he has looked sharp in pre-season, but Spurs are still happy for the 34-year-old to move on.

Ivan Perisic may have emotional Tottenham exit in mind

Sky Italia’s Gianluca Di Marzio reported earlier in July that Perisic was close to joining Hajduk Split.

The idea was that Perisic would rip up the final year of his contract and complete a dream move back to his boyhood club.

Perisic was born in Split, supported Hajduk as a kid and start out in their youth ranks before moving on.

Finishing his career with Hajduk would surely be the dream for Perisic but there has been little movement on that transfer.

Hajduk president Lukša Jakobušić claims that Perisic wants to come back to Hajduk but that Postecoglou was looking to keep hold of him.

That no longer seems to be the case and Perisic may well be able to make his emotional return home this summer
