The former Manchester City defender has had an outstanding first season as a manager, with Pep Guardiola calling his style of play “exceptional” (The Mirror, 23 April).
TEAM talk sources now report (22 April) that the Hammers board admires the 37-year-old and is monitoring his situation at Burnley.
According to the Guardian (19 April), Lille leader Paulo Fonseca is also being considered by the board if the club decides to break ways with the Scot.
Innovative
Kompany has done well with the Championship side, but there are a few things to think about. To begin with, the second tier has been far weaker than in recent seasons. Second, the 37-year-old has no managerial experience in the Premier League.
The top tier can be an entirely other animal. Kompany would be considerably better off staying at the Lancashire club and further developing himself and his talented team.
At the moment, rumors of Moyes being fired has cooled down little. The Scot has been chastised for much of the season, but has turned things around in recent weeks with a stunning win against Gent and a well-earned draw against Arsenal.
Despite their recent improvement, the Hammers remain in danger and must avoid reverting to form against Bournemouth on Sunday (22 April). Gary O’Neil’s team has been outstanding recently, and West Ham will need to be at their best.
A winning streak and a strong finish to the season will force the board to make a difficult decision at the end of the 2022/23 season.
