Jerry Jones of the Dallas Cowboys has not yet made a decision regarding wide receiver Michael Gallup,
at least not one he is ready to share, according to Michael Gehlken of the Dallas Morning News (via Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk).
“We don’t have a decision that we would like to talk about right now,” Jones stated. “It’s one that we will be going over with him. Nothing we would say without him being involved. We need to sit down and go over stuff with him before we talk about what we’re going to do with him.” Gallup has been a member of the Cowboys since 2018.
2023 was his poorest statistical year ever; he only had 418 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Gallup failed to get over the hump and has only had 500+ receiving yards once in the last four years, following a 1,000+ receiving yard season in 2019.
In 2022, he inked a contract worth $57.5 million for five years. Should Dallas decide to retain him, his compensation is capped at $13.85 million in 2024. In 2027, he will be a free agent without restrictions.
Gallup will probably need to accept a pay reduction if he wishes to remain employed with the Cowboys.
