2 Key Detroit Lions Receivers Suffer devastating Injuries In Practice that might keep them out of the season
Although the Pro Bowl center for the Detroit Lions, Frank Ragnow, is feeling “good” three days after sustaining a knee injury against the New Orleans Saints, he did not practice on Wednesday.
After leaving the Saints game late in the first half due to a knee injury, Ragnow’s status for Sunday’s game against the Chicago Bears is unknown.
On Wednesday, when asked about Ragnow, Lions coach Dan Campbell responded, “He’s doing good.”
Bruce Irvin, the practice squad linebacker, and Ragnow were the two important Lions who did not practice (ankle). An ankle injury sidelined linebacker Malcolm Rodriguez, while quarterback Hendon Hooker—who is still recovering from a knee injury sustained in college—played the entire game.
After joining the practice squad in mid-November, Irvin made his Lions debut against the Saints, playing 11 defensive snaps and recording one sack.
Irvin, 36, was kept out of games by the Lions against the Chicago Bears and Green Bay Packers in an effort to get him in football shape and preserve his health for the postseason.
Following his absence from the Saints game due to a thumb injury, linebacker Alex Anzalone made a comeback to practice on Wednesday. Anzalone stated he intends to perform on Sunday after practicing with what looked to be a cast on his left hand.
Reeves-Maybin honored
Following his four special teams tackles against the Saints, which tied for the most stops in a single game this season, Jalen Reeves-Maybin was awarded the NFC Special Teams Player of the Week on Wednesday.
Reeves-Maybin recorded two defensive tackles, a quarterback hit, and a pass breakup in addition to playing a season-high 20 defensive snaps.
“I just try to come out and impact the game, whatever role that is, if it’s special teams, a couple defensive snaps, whatever it is,” Reeves-Maybin said on Sunday. “I simply attempt to influence the game and energize the team when I get here. I believe I carried that out.”
This season, Reeves-Maybin is the third Lion to receive player of the week. Week 3 against the Atlanta Falcons had Aidan Hutchinson earn NFC Defensive Player of the Week with two sacks, while Week 5 against the Tampa Bay Bucs saw Jared Goff win Offensive Player of the Week with a 353-yard touchdown pass.
