Florida DB Target Zavier Mincey Names Finalists Before All-American Bowl Pledge /
Top Gators defensive back target in the class of 2024, Zavier Mincey, announced Florida, Alabama, Florida State and Miami as the finalists in his recruitment on Saturday, ahead of his All-American Game commitment scheduled for Jan. 6, 2024, in San Antonio, Texas.
He did so via emoji on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, posting an elephant for the Crimson Tide, raising hands shaping the letter “U” for the Hurricanes, an oden resembling a spear for the Seminoles, and an alligator for the Gators.
Florida remains squarely in the mix for the ball-hawking talent’s services just under a month before his commitment, even though the Gators relieved Mincey’s primary recruiter to UF, assistant Corey Raymond, one week before he solidified his finalists.
Mincey has been a frequent visitor to Gainesville throughout the year, having made six trips to UF, including thrice unofficially for Florida’s matchups with Tennessee, Arkansas and Florida State during the 2023 season and on an official basis in June.
The 6-foot-3, 175-pound Mincey is regarded as the No. 4 safety and No. 56 overall prospect by the 247Sports composite rankings. On3 Sports’ consensus rankings consider Mincey to be the No. 5 cornerback and No. 47 overall prospect.
Mincey has accumulated 91 tackles including five for loss, eight interceptions, 27 passes defended and two forced fumbles over 34 varsity games, per 247Sports and MaxPreps.
Should Mincey elect to join the Gators, he’d team up with cornerback Teddy Foster and safeties Xavier Filsaime and Josiah Davis as future members of Florida’s secondary from the recruiting class of 2024.
