Son Heung-min has just delivered brutal verdict on Tottenham loss at Brighton tonight

Son Heung-min, the captain of Tottenham Hotspur, gave a harsh assessment of his team’s performance against Brighton & Hove Albion on the road.

The Spurs attacker acknowledged that his team’s performance in the Premier League loss on Thursday night was “very disappointing” and “nowhere near the level” that was needed.

On the south coast, Tottenham was defeated 4-2; their two goals came late in the game, after they had already been behind by 4.

Jack Hinshelwood gave the Seagulls the lead with a strong goal in the eleventh minute, and Joao Pedro doubled the lead with a penalty kick in the twenty-third to put the team ahead at halftime.

In the second half, Tottenham let up two more goals. On 63 minutes, Pervis Estupinan scored the third goal with a powerful long-range strike before Pedro added another from a penalty kick.

Spurs did, to their credit, make a comeback threat. In the 81st minute, Alejo Veliz scored the first goal for Tottenham, and four minutes later, Ben Davies added another.

Spurs’ three-match winning streak came to an abrupt stop, though, and they left the Amex Stadium empty-handed. It was just too little, too late.

According to Son, the performance is extremely unsatisfactory, as reported by Premier League Productions on the BBC Sport website.

“We haven’t approached the season this way. Our desired level of performance was far from being met by this performance.

“We acknowledge our shortcomings, but since the games are approaching quickly, it is not the appropriate moment to assign blame to one another.

“We know we have to play like that from minute one; we have to take the lesson again and go on. Instead of talking about the conclusion, we should discuss the first half and the early stages of the second half.

“This has to be a major wake-up call. Every team in the Premier League is strong, and if we’re not playing like the last 15 minutes in every game, we’re going to struggle.”

Roberto De Zerbi’s team dropped seven points behind fourth-place Manchester City as Spurs squandered the opportunity to go back into the top four of the Premier League standings.

When Ange Postecoglou’s team hosts Bournemouth at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday at 2 p.m., they will look to avenge their defeat.
