Georgia school district votes to rename part of athletics facility for Mary Beth Smart…

The Morrow High School gymnasium floor will be named in honor of Smart, who was a standout basketball player at the school — earning the title Miss Georgia Basketball in 1999 — before playing collegiately at the University of Georgia. Before the renaming is official, the school board will need permission from Smart, since she is a living person.

The approval includes the maiden name of Smart, wife Georgia football coach Kirby Smart, referring to her as Mary Beth Lycett-Smart.
