West Ham United close in on signing of sensational midfielder as Gianluca Scamacca
His exit would mean that David Moyes needs more goals in his squad for the 2023/24 season, and with the club advancing on a deal for the Leicester City winger, a new report has suggested he will be seen as the direct replacement for the Italy international.
“West Ham, Scamacca is no longer needed: a replacement has already been taken,” they wrote.
“West Ham are getting closer to Leicester’s Harvey Barnes. [They have] beat the competition from Newcastle and Aston Villa.”
Interesting
But Scamacca struggled to adapt to England and picked up several injuries in his first season, and it now looks likely that he will leave the club to return to his homeland.
A replacement would be needed but interestingly it seems as though the club could look to replace his numbers with a winger rather than with a direct replacement as another number nine.
Michail Antonio and Danny Ings are still part of the squad too and if they were to end up sticking around into the 2023/24 season, then the club wouldn’t be too short on options and would still have added goals to the side.
It could prove to be a shrewd bit of business over the summer, but there have been plenty of links to strikers too so don’t rule out another number 9 coming in alongside Barnes.
