‘Unbelievable’: What Moyes told his players in the dressing room after 3-1 win

After yesterday’s stunning 3-1 victory at Brighton, David Moyes recounted what he told his West Ham players.

In order to counterattack Brighton, West Ham manager David Moyes instructed his team to line up with a deep backline against the hosts.

The Hammers wrecked havoc on the south shore, proving that it was a complete success. In fact, even if we had defeated the Seagulls 5-1, it wouldn’t have been unfair to them.

Amazingly, West Ham is currently leading the Premier League standings. Even though the season has only had three games played, nobody would have guessed that when the schedule was released, given the first three contests we played.

And Moyes is clearly buzzing about what lies in wait…

The Scot addressed the media after yesterday’s magnificent victory.

And Moyes responded when asked what he thought about his West Ham side currently sitting at the top of the Premier League table, as quoted via WHUFC.com:

“I can’t believe we’re top of the league! I’ve just said to the players that the challenge now is to keep fighting, keep pushing, and challenge each other. I remember three years ago, before we got in Europe and we were in Scotland for pre-season, and I said to the players about getting into Europe. That was our goal. I’ve told them we need to challenge the top teams this year, so we’ll see what we can do.”

It is very uncharacteristic of Moyes to come out and express his expectations of his team in such an outspoken manner. He typically downplays incidents like that, but this time he deviated from his regular stance. To hear Moyes take the bull by the horns and assert that his club is prepared to compete with the best this season certainly stunned me.

Can we truly throw a wrench in the works this year and enter the top four?

Although extremely implausible, who knows? We might have a chance if we can finalize a deal for Kudus, sign a center-forward like Youssef En-Nesyri, and possibly add a world-class left-back to the mix as well.

Moyes has unmistakably returned to the Hammers’ successful counterattacking strategy from 2020 to 2022. Guess what, it’s back in operation! Teams are finding it difficult to handle us on the counter since we appear to be a real handful.

The fact that West Ham defeated Brighton 3-1 yesterday will give everyone associated with the team genuine optimism for the next season.
