Tottenham is moving quickly to complete their summer hiring. After Antonio Conte was fired mid-season, the Lilywhites have a new head coach in place.
In N17, Ange Postecoglou has assumed leadership after moving from Celtic, where he won the treble last season, to Spurs. Tottenham supporters, who haven’t won anything since 2008, are hoping he can revive that winning sensation to north London.
Goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario and offensive midfielder James Maddison have already entered the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium under Postecoglou’s tutelage. Dejan Kulusevski transformed his loan from Juventus into a permanent move, and Pedro Porro’s loan deal from Sporting CP was also made permanent, though Spurs haven’t yet made the announcement.
In addition, it was revealed late on Sunday that Manor Solomon would also be moving to Spurs, with the understanding that details for a free transfer have already been worked out, should FIFA allow his contract with Shakhtar Donetsk to be cancelled due to the current conflict with Russia.
gamehuz.com reported before the transfer window opened that Spurs were looking at a number of players in different areas of the pitch, while also looking to offload some members of the current squad. And in signing Maddison, Vicario and now Solomon, Spurs are almost there under the stewardship of chairman Daniel Levy. There remains one big area in need of attention, however – defence.
In reporting the news of Solomon’s deal, gamehuz’s Alasdair Gold explained what the club’s transfer plans where ahead of the new season starting. And only two transfers remain, albeit with more should more players leave than initially expected.
“Manor Solomon is another good deal for Spurs,” Gold remarked. 23 years old and competent. Watching to see if [Bryan] Gil lands the final winger position will be interesting. Goalkeeper, attacking midfielder, and youthful winger are all present and correct. Now that there isn’t much depth, they need to replace any departing CBs with new ones.
Next on the wanted list are two center backs, with moves rumored for Edmond Tapsoba, Micky van de Ven, and Tosin Adarabioyo. You would anticipate that all summer transfer activity would be completed once Spurs signed two new center backs for Postecoglou.
