‘Tried dribbles that were impossible’: Nation’s media unimpressed by £15m Tottenham player’s performance last night
After last night’s performance for Denmark, Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg received negative feedback from the Danish media.
Hojbjerg was a member of the Danish team that defeated San Marino 2-1 on Tuesday night in their Euro qualifying match.
As Denmark fought to defeat the international underdogs, the 28-year-old played the entire 90 minutes in midfield.
San Marino startled Denmark in the second half by scoring their first goal in two years in a competitive match to tie the score following Rasmus Hojlund’s opening goal.
It didn’t last long, though, as Yussuf Poulsen’s header in the 70th minute brought Denmark dangerously close to earning a spot in next year’s Euros.
However, the national media criticized Tottenham’s Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg after the Danes put on a lackluster performance.
Danish media unimpressed by Hojbjerg’s latest display
Hojbjerg received a two star rating from Ekstra Baldet for his performance against San Marino.
According to the outlet, Hojbjerg attempted ‘impossible’ dribbles and wasn’t at all effective that evening.
“The ox in the middle never got going for what he’s good at,” they claimed.
“Pierre was unfriendly with the ball, attempted dribbles that were previously impossible, and made too few runs. However, he was one of many who gave it a shot.
Hojbjerg has frequently performed admirably for Denmark, where he has established himself as an important member of the team.
Hojbjerg’s performance was lackluster, but the Danes struggled yesterday night, and he most certainly wasn’t the only one.
Due to Yves Bissouma’s ban, the midfielder who cost £15 million is expected to start his first Premier League game of the year on Monday.
Spurs will be hoping Hojbjerg improves on the performance he gave last night for Denmark because he has had trouble getting minutes so far this season.

After being given permission to reunite with his former Tottenham teammates and staff on Tuesday at Enfield, Harry Kane has said goodbye to them.

Kane came with the team at Tottenham’s training facility, where he was seen getting ready for the match alongside the rest of the England team. Kane was able to reunite with his former Spurs teammates just as the Three Lions were about to depart for the national stadium, according to the Daily Mail.
Kane was able to say goodbye to the team he had worked with over the years and see the first-team training grounds as Tottenham ramped up their preparations for Monday’s home game against Fulham. Although numerous players, like Heung min-Son, were still on international service with their respective countries, Kane was able to reconnect with his former teammates through the process.
Kane left his childhood club to join Bayern during the summer transfer window, and that was more than two months ago. On the eve of their season-opening match against Brentford, Spurs reluctantly cashed in on their hero, the England captain, who had scored 30 Premier League goals the previous campaign.
Tottenham has performed well under Ange Postecoglou despite losing Kane, and they presently lead the Premier League. They are one of just two teams without a loss in the league with 20 points from their opening eight games, with rivals from north London Arsenal being the other.
When questioned about Spurs’ form last week, Kane, who left in an effort to finally win some hardware, responded: “It’s nice to see. The manager is doing a terrific job for them with the manner they are playing, as I believe I’ve said before. After the previous several years, the supporters are solidly behind the squad, and it’s just what they needed.
“Spurs and the Premier League are two things I’ll never ignore. There is still a long way to go, but as the manager noted, there is no reason why the supporters shouldn’t be enthusiastic and pleased with how things are progressing. I’m hoping they can go on.
“I have been open about my support for Tottenham throughout my career, and I hope they succeed. Tottenham is the only team in the Premier League that I would like to win.
“Also, I have to be respectful to Bayern Munich and of course, the fans know I will always have a soft spot for Spurs – there is no question about that – but I have got to put all my attention on Bayern Munich and to make us as successful as possible.”
Following Daniel Levy’s confirmation on a supporters’ forum that Tottenham had included a buy-back clause in Kane’s sale to Bayern, those remarks were made.
