Transfer notebook: Tottenham eyes Juventus defender
New Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou could bolster backline with Brazilian
Tottenham are keeping an eye on Gleison Bremer’s situation at Juventus as they look for new centre-backs to boost Ange Postecoglou’s backline this summer.
Bremer, 26, has been on Spurs’ radar since his time at Torino before joining Juventus a year ago, where he has impressed amid a turbulent season in which they were fined points and ended eighth in Serie A.
Other Premier League clubs are interested in the Brazilian international and are waiting to see if he will be released after only one season at Juventus. Outgoings are expected at the club, and his availability may be contingent on if others are offloaded first, with insiders not expecting approaches until late in the window.
Spurs have been looking at centre-backs and, as reported by the Telegraph Sport, have shown interest in Manchester United captain Harry Maguire, who has lost his regular starting place under Erik Ten Hag. They have also been linked with Bayer Leverkusen’s Edmond Tapsoba.
Clément Lenglet is returning to Barcelona following a season-long loan last season, while Davinson Sánchez might leave the club for the right price, according to new boss Postecoglou.
Ben Osborn set to stay at Sheffield United
Sheffield United midfielder Ben Osborn is close to agreeing a contract extension at Bramall Lane to be part of their squad for their Premier League return.
The 28-year-old arrived in the season the club were last promoted to the top-flight and has stayed with them in the Championship.
He might have departed as a free agent this summer, as his contract was about to expire, but he is expected to sign a new contract to join Paul Heckingbottom’s squad next season. Jack Robinson and John Fleck are negotiating new contracts.
Former Sheffield United striker Billy Sharp has early interest from Rotherham after his contract expired this summer and he was released.
He is anticipated to get additional offers to remain in the Championship and add to his record as the league’s leading scorer. Rotherham are also interested in Sonny Bradley, who is leaving Luton Town.
Luton after Lewis Travis
Luton Town have an interest in Blackburn midfielder Lewis Travis as they look to add players to the squad for the Premier League. The 25-year-old was subject of a rejected bid from Millwall.
Jack Whatmough wanted by several Championship clubs
On a free transfer, Wigan centre-back Jack Whatmough might cause a scuffle in the Championship. He is free to leave the club for non-payment of wages last season, with QPR, Bristol City, Preston, Coventry, and others interested.
