Destiny Udogie has had a terrific start to life at Tottenham Hotspur, and it appears the kid currently holds the Premier League record for most times in which a player has won possession in the offensive third.
Despite joining Spurs in the summer of 2018, Destiny Udogie finished the 2022–23 season with his former team, Udinese. While there, the Italian led the Serie A team with three goals and four assists (Transfermarkt).
He had high expectations when he joined Tottenham this summer, and he has most definitely lived up to them. The 20-year-old has made his Premier League debut in each of Spurs’ first five games and has already contributed with two assists (Transfermarkt).
Udogie has benefited from the new manager, Ange Postecoglou, and has played a key role in Tottenham’s unbeaten start to the season.
As a left-back, Udogie’s primary responsibilities are defense-related. However, the wonderkid has been equally valuable in forward areas in Postecoglou’s attacking formation.
Udogie leads the way in winning possession
Udogie reportedly has been so effective in those attacking areas that, according to WhoScored, he actually leads the Premier League in one particular metric.
No player in the Premier League this season has won possession in the attacking third more often than Destiny Udogie (eight times), according to WhoScored.
Udogie’s leadership in this particular skill set is another evidence of Postecoglou’s high-pressing, aggressive style. This will also play a significant role in Udogie’s ability to be so deadly while assisting his colleagues.
Destiny Udogie would successfully adjust to the Premier League, but I didn’t exactly anticipate him to do it so rapidly or to have such a significant impact. This season, he has been terrific, and he will only become better and better.

Football.In his debut for the Tottenham Under-21s in their EFL Trophy match against Colchester on Tuesday, Alejo Veliz showed a lot of potential, according to London’s Alasdair Gold.
Jamie Donley and Jude Soonsup-Bell both scored a brace, and Will Lankshear also hit the back of the net as Tottenham easily defeated their opponents 5-0 to advance to the next round of the competition.
Veliz entered yesterday’s match as a second-half substitution because he has been sidelined with an injury and has just recently resumed training.

In the 28 minutes of play he saw, Gold said the 20-year-old was a handful, and the journalist admitted he was rather taken with his mobility.
The former Rosario Central player, according to him, pulled Colchester’s defenders all over the place, particularly throughout the progression of Soonsup-Bell’s second goal.
Gold added that the striker appeared a touch rusty with his finishing, having had a few attempts stopped, but that the youngster appeared to have the physicality needed for English football.
Given that Veliz has been sidelined with an injury and hasn’t played much football recently, the rustiness in front of goal is to be expected. As the striker plays more minutes for the Under-21s over the next weeks, he’ll probably get better and better.
