Tottenham transfers: £64m double centre-back deal gains big momentum following fresh update

Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou during a press conference at Tottenham Hotspur Training CentreTottenham are reportedly pushing hard to sign two centre-backs and not just one this summer, with a potential £64million double deal being firmly on the cards.

Ange Postecoglou has made strengthening a weak Spurs defence one of his major priorities after the club conceded a whopping 63 goals in 38 Premier League games to finish a hugely disappointing eighth in the table last season.

There have been strong links to Wolfsburg star Micky van de Ven and Bayer Leverkusen’s Edmond Tapsoba in recent weeks, along with continued talk of a move for long-term target Gleison Bremer from Juventus.

However, an update from journalist Paul Brown on Give Me Sport has revealed that a big-money double deal could well happen.

Tottenham are already thought to have agreed personal terms with Van de Ven but are currently £5m off with their valuation of the 22-year-old Dutchman.

Wolfsburg want a £30m fee for the pacy defender, only for Daniel Levy to return with an offer of £25m.

That has led to talk of Postecoglou moving on to other targets instead, with Tapsoba having already been considered after s stellar season in Germany.

Ironically, Tapsoba has a higher value than Van de Ven at €40m (£34m), but Brown is off the belief that both players could end up in north London.

That means a potential outlay of £64m, but if Postecoglou can offload some of the defenders currently on the club’s books then it’s certainly possible.

Tottenham quartet tipped to be sold

The likes of Eric Dier, Davinson Sanchez, Japhet Tanganga and Ben Davies have all been tipped to move this summer – with Van de Ven and Tapsoba arriving as younger talents who are very highly rated in the Bundesliga.

And Brown told Give Me Sport: “Spurs seem a little further down the line with Van de Ven. They’ve met his people. I understand his personal terms won’t be a problem. It’s purely about agreeing on a fee with his club. That one seems more likely to happen at the moment than Tapsoba. But both of them are on Spurs’ list, and it does look like they might try to sign two centre-backs this summer. So, they may sign them both.”

Tottenham currently have Cristian Romero as the only centre-back who is arguably safe from the axe, with Dier, Sanchez and Tanganga all tipped to leave along with potentially Joe Rodon as well.

Tottenham linked with Bounou, Veiga with four deals close
Tottenham are hoping to land four new signings as Ange Postecoglou rebuilds the squad.

As for those incomings, both Van de Ven and Tapsoba are renowned for their blistering pace and would be a perfect foil for the more physical Romero at the heart of Postecoglou’s defence.
