Tottenham ready to turn to two outcasts as injuries start to mount

Tottenham lifelines for Bryan Gil and Ryan Sessegnon as mounting injuries offer opportunities

Even though courageous teams like the Australians tend to create their own luck, Ange Postecoglou is already proven to be a competent manager and a lucky one.

After Manor Solomon became the most recent Tottenham player to go down with an injury, one could argue that the head coach’s good fortune is even extending to injuries.

Solomon’s medial collateral ligament (MCL) injury sustained during training might keep him out until Christmas, and the summer signing now joins Ivan Perisic in the hospital after the Croatian underwent surgery last week to repair his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL).

Solomon has played in six of Spurs’ eight games this season, starting three of them, so his absence is disappointing for Postecoglou, but at least the Israeli and Perisic are playing at a position where the coach has backup.

With Brennan Johnson not likely to be fit until after the international break as a result of their absence, Spurs will be missing three wingers for Saturday’s midday trip to Luton, but Postecoglou will still be able to start a formidable front three of Richarlison, Heung-min Son, and Dejan Kulusevski.

Postecoglou would be dependent on inexperienced players and their promising start would be in risk of quickly unraveling if Spurs were missing three players from any other position.

A 20-year-old winger named Yago Santiago, who has performed well for the development squad, may join the young strikers Jamie Donley and Alejo Veliz on the bench at Kenilworth Road, although Postecoglou should soon have Bryan Gil and Ryan Sessegnon back in the mix.

Gil, who underwent groin surgery in the summer, has resumed first-team workouts, and Sessegnon, who underwent hamstring surgery in the summer, is working out outside.

Before their injury, both players were expected to leave in the summer, but they now have the chance to join Postecoglou’s revolution.
