Ange Postecoglou, the new manager of Tottenham Hotspur, has made bold pronouncements about his goal to improve the defense.

Dejan Kulusevski and Cristian Romero have both joined on a permanent basis, and the newly appointed Australian has wasted no time in attempting to improve a team that placed ninth in the previous season. Manor Soloman has agreed to a free transfer, while James Maddison has signed for almost £40 million.

Postecoglou wants to strengthen Tottenham’s defensive position and has two moves in the works to do so. However, players like Japhet Tanganga and Davinson Sanchez are rumored to be close to leaving the club.

Football Insider reports that personal terms have been reached with Micky van de Ven, who is valued at £30 million, and that Spurs made Wolfsburg their first offer of £25 million.

Tottenham, though, is moving for another Bundesliga standout in Edmund Tapsoba, as Sport BILD through Sport Witness, not happy with one defensive boost. The Burkinabe reportedly costs £34 million.

Many of Tottenham’s defensive choices are better suited to a back three because Antonio Conte has preferred a 3-4-3 during the past 18 months. However, Postecoglou favors a 4-3-3 and might possibly search for inverted full-backs.

Van de Ven, however, is a pacy centre-back – and possibly allows the Australian to play with a high defensive line, given that they would have greater recovery pace in the backline.

Van de Ven and Tapsoba are both valued by Transfermarkt to be worth €30m.
