Tottenham have ‘swooped in strongly’ for player ‘in last few hours’

According to Italian media, Tottenham Hotspur are now considered major contenders to sign Empoli goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario.

Following his outstanding season in Serie A, the 26-year-old has been linked to numerous Premier League clubs, with Spurs appearing to be the frontrunners.

That was stated today during Sport Italia’s SICafé broadcast, where journalist Michele Criscitiello discussed the race for Vicario. He claims Tottenham came in strong for his signature, albeit this may be contingent on other occurrences.

“Inter will most likely sell Onana.” “There’s talk of big money with Chelsea,” Criscitiello remarked.
“The Nerazzurri had Vicario in their grasp, but they are now wasting time, and as a result Tottenham have swooped in strongly on the goalkeeper in these hours, with significant money, at Corsi’s house.” Empoli is negotiating with the English; I’m not sure what the sums are.”

According to Italian network SportItalia, the Lilywhites have made a move to get the 26-year-old and could sign him ahead of the Nerazzurri.

Vicario, the Empoli goalkeeper, has emerged as a major target for Inter during the summer transfer window.

The Nerazzurri are waiting to see if any bids for Andre Onana emerge. Manchester United and Chelsea are both interested in the Cameroonian.

If Inter accepts an offer for Vicario, they intend to sign him. The Nerazzurri have been eyeing the 26-year-old as a long-term replacement for Onana.

He is preferred over Marco Carnesecchi and Giorgio Mamardashvili on Inter’s shortlist.

Spurs want to compete with Inter Milan for Empoli and Italy goalkeeper Vicario.
However, Inter faces the very real possibility of missing out on Vicario.

The Empoli goalkeeper, whose departure has been all but confirmed by coach Paolo Zanetti, is not only a target for the Nerazzurri. Juve and Roma have also been mentioned. According to recent sources, Fiorentina is interested in signing Vicario.

Even teams outside of Serie A are paying attention. Both Manchester United and Bayern Munich are said to be fans of the 26-year-old.

According to SportItalia, another team could be added to that list.

He claims that the Londoners have begun talks with Empoli about a possible move for Vicario.

Criscitiello also states that as of yet it is not clear what kind of fees the clubs are talking about.

Vicario has largely been linked to Manchester United and Chelsea in recent weeks, as it had been over a month since the Italian media had mentioned Tottenham’s interest.

After a loan spell at Cagliari, the goalkeeper returned to Empoli last summer. In his return to his club, he made 32 appearances, conceding 41 goals and keeping seven clean sheets. SportItalia’s story doesn’t say how much would Tottenham need to spend to sign him from the Serie A side. His transfer value on Transfermarkt has only been going up, and currently stands at €15m as the club look to replace Hugo Lloris.

However, Inter could be put into a tough position now. They are still reportedly ready to sell Onana if the right offer comes along.

However, the Nerazzurri may miss out on their first-choice replacement if Vicario goes elsewhere.
