Tottenham have spurn €20m for player – Postecoglou wants to give him Spurs lifeline

Tanguy Ndombélé was transferred to Napoli for the season after falling far short of Antonio Conte’s expectations at Tottenham last summer.

Although there was a €30 million buyout option included in his loan, it was never exercised, and the Frenchman returned to Spurs. It went well, with nothing particularly noteworthy occurring.

Now that L’Equipe has written a feature on the former Lyon star, looking at what the future holds for him, he might have an opportunity to impress at Tottenham once more.

While his time in Italy wasn’t as fruitful as he and Spurs would have liked, they explain that Napoli still wanted to buy him permanently, but at a lower price, despite his struggles since his arrival in England.

The newspaper state those in charge of the Serie A club ‘wanted to spend €20m’ and wanted ‘a few weeks before renegotiating the option to buy’.

While there were ‘few chances’ of seeing Ndombélé in a Tottenham shirt a few weeks ago, the arrival of Ange Postecoglou has changed matters quite a lot.

The midfielder is reportedly a “long time admirer” of the former Celtic manager, and if he “confirms this good impression in the pre-season games,” he “intends to leave a space” in his 4-3-3 system for the player.

With a deal that runs through 2025, there isn’t much to lose because a run of success under Postecoglou might ultimately make up for the initial $60 million Tottenham paid for him.

If he doesn’t succeed, though, “there will be opportunities in Europe,” as his profile “interests the Saudi market,” as well as elsewhere.
