Tottenham ‘decided’ to trigger release clause to sign £21m star as Postecoglou aims to address key issue
Tottenham Hotspur is prepared to exercise Victor Nelsson’s £21 million [€25 million] release clause in order to entice him to the recently restored White Hart Lane this summer. It has been widely reported that Spurs have opted to bolster their backline in this transfer window after having trouble with their porous defence last season. They also appear to be preparing to sign more than one option before the start of the upcoming season.Over the past few months, a number of defenders have been discussed as potential transfers to the Lilywhites, with Edmond Tapsoba and Micky van de Ven being regarded as the main targets.Nelsson, however, is allegedly also on their radar.
Over the past few weeks, Turkey has been the source of the majority of rumours regarding Tottenham’s interest in the Danish international, and it has even been said that Ange Postecoglou’s team has already made a £19 million [€22 million] offer to sign the player. However, according to the report by Aksam, Galatasaray has rejected the offer because they want to charge a sum of money equal to about £21 million (€25 million) to allow their star player to depart.
Nelsson going to Spurs
According to the report, Tottenham has ‘decided’ to activate the release clause in order to sign the defender after giving it some thought. Thus, it appears that Tottenham is close to arranging a transfer for Nelsson within current window.Tottenham’s major goals to strengthen their defence are reportedly Van de Ven and Tapsoba, according to rumours.According to reports, they have begun formal negotiations with Wolfsburg to recruit the Dutch international, who is eager to work with Postecoglou.
However, it has been reported that Leverkusen have slapped a huge £60m price tag on Tapsoba’s head. So, it seems Tottenham have decided not to move forward with a deal to sign the African and have opted to shift focus on a cheaper alternative target such as Nelsson.
The 24-year-old is quick, strong, good in the air, comfortable playing out from the back, good in defensive contributions and also reads the game well. He possesses the necessary attributes to flourish in the Premier League so Nelsson could be a shrewd signing for Tottenham if they eventually opt to secure his signature in this transfer window
