Yaya Toure has announced his departure from Tottenham’s Academy to become an assistant coach at Standard Liege.
Last season, the former Manchester City midfielder managed the Spurs Under-16s.
He previously played for Ukrainian club Olimpik Donetsk and Russian club Akhmat Grozny before leaving City in 2018 and finishing his career in Greece and China.
Toure, 40, wrote on Twitter: “I am delighted to share that I will be taking on the role of assistant coach at Standard de Liege.
“It’s an honor to join the club, and I’m excited to work with head coach Carl Hoefkens.”
“I’d like to thank everyone at the Tottenham Hotspur Academy for their help over the last 18 months.”
“Special mention should be made of Dean Rastrick, Chris Powell, and all of the young players.” Thank you very much.
Meanwhile, Spurs have announced the appointment of Simon Davies as Academy director.
Davies, the captain of Manchester United’s famed junior team of 1992, joined the Academy last year as head of methodology.
He has extensive Academy experience, having spent eight years at Manchester City. He also assisted Vincent Kompany at Anderlecht before joining Tottenham last year.
Tottenham have appointed Simon Davies as their new Academy Director, replacing coach Yaya Toure.
Davies joined the club’s Academy as head of methology last year and was promoted after Dean Rastrick left.
Davies, who captained Manchester United’s renowned youth team in 1992, has extensive Academy experience, having spent eight years with Manchester City. He also worked as assistant to Vincent Kompany at Anderlecht before moving to Tottenham last year.
Meanwhile, Toure is on his way to Standard Liege to become an assistant coach.
