Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy reveals the two key reasons why he appointed Ange Postecoglou as manager… with Treble-winning Celtic boss handed four-year deal

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has explained why he chose Ange Postecoglou as his new manager.

Following a turbulent season in which Tottenham finished eighth and had three different managers, Levy has turned to Postecoglou in an attempt to turn the club’s fortunes around.

Postecoglou, who has signed a four-year contract, was lauded for his efforts at Celtic, where he won the domestic Treble as well as the Scottish Premiership and the League Cup the previous season.

Postecoglou’s attacking style of play, which should appeal to Tottenham fans, has impressed Levy.

In addition, Levy believes that Postecoglou will give first-team opportunities to Tottenham’s youngsters.

In an interview with representatives of Tottenham supporters’ groups, Levy stated, ‘We made a conscious decision that we wanted a coach who would understand what we really wanted as a club, which was to play attacking football, to enable everyone to enjoy coming to a match and be entertained, and also someone who understood the importance of the academy.’

Postecoglou himself addressed Tottenham’s fans and insisted that he ‘won’t leave any stone unturned’ during pre-season as he prepares his squad for the new season.

‘I think it’s an exciting opportunity for us to now set off in a new direction, play football and create an environment that embodies the values and traditions of this fantastic football club, hopefully a team you can all be proud of and, more importantly, get excited by.
