Steelers make first big QB decision of offseason

The first domino fell on Monday, suggesting that the quarterback room of the Pittsburgh Steelers may soon undergo significant changes.

According to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network, quarterback Mitchell Trubisky and the Steelers are parting ways amicably. With two years remaining on his deal, Trubisky will now be free to sign with any team in the world.

This trade was unavoidable because Trubisky would have been due $5.25 million in 2024 and did not seem to have much of a chance to start for Pittsburgh. For the veteran, who was brought in to contend for the starting job two years ago, it represents a sharp turnabout in his circumstances. In the end, he was benched in favor of Kenny Pickett and never recovered, showing no improvement even during Pickett’s injuries.

The Steelers gave Trubisky a new contract a year ago because they believed so much in him. But things swiftly shifted, and Trubisky found himself the odd man out as the Steelers searched for a fresh veteran to rival Pickett.

Super Bowl LVIII drew record TV ratings for CBS

At Super Bowl LVIII, there were more winners than just the Kansas City Chiefs and their supporters. That was also a pretty good outcome for CBS Sports.

The viewership figures from the Chiefs’ 25-22 overtime victory over the San Francisco 49ers at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada, were made public by CBS Sports’ PR account on X on Monday. With an average of 123.4 million viewers, the 58th Super Bowl was deemed the most watched in history by the final tally.

The fact that quarterback Patrick Mahomes of the Chiefs, the biggest star in the game, was taking on the 49ers, a team from a major market, undoubtedly helped. Additionally, the game was close the entire time and even went into overtime, which raised the stakes and lengthened the game’s duration to draw in more viewers.

There’s also a good chance that Taylor Swift’s appearance supporting her boyfriend, Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, contributed to the increased attention. The fact that Usher removed his shirt during the Super Bowl halftime show may also have somewhat increased the statistics.

Even though the Super Bowl dominates all other athletic events in the United States, its audience ratings are still insignificant when compared to the global viewership of soccer events such as the annual UEFA Champions League Final and the quadrennial FIFA World Cup.
