According to the Portuguese publication A Bola, Tottenham Hotspur reportedly made a surprise offer to buy Pepe from FC Porto during current transfer window.

Spurs have made the decision to rebuild the team under the direction of new manager Ange Postecoglou after suffering through a disastrous season last year.

They have already spent more than £150 million to strengthen a number of positions. However, it’s been said that the North London club, which recently sold Harry Kane, is eager to sign a new striker and is also considering a move for a new center-back.

However, it appears Postecoglou also has bolstering the flanks on his agenda given that Tottenham have now shown a real interest in signing Pepe. Spurs have reportedly made a €60 million [£ 51 million] offer to buy the Brazilian, with the package of the deal including a €45 million [£ 38 million] fixed fee and €15 million [£ 13 million] in add-ons.

According to the report, Porto has chosen to reject Tottenham’s bid because they want to maintain hold of their top player and will only allow him to depart if his £64 million release clause is activated by prospective suitors like Tottenham.

Therefore, if Tottenham were to sign him this summer, it would be a wise move. But rather than signing the Brazilian during this transfer window, Spurs would be better suited using the rumored £64 million cost to recruit a new striker after selling Kane.
