Spurs Full-time ratings vs Brentford – Mistakes continue to prove to be costly

Guglielmo Vicario: A nervy start from the debutant with a couple of borderline loose passes which could have caused problems. Made his first save on 15 minutes. Booked for his attempts to delay Mbuemo’s penalty but eventually got sent the wrong way. 6.
Emerson Royal: Has been tucking in centrally on occasions as more of an inverted full-back. His poor touch nearly led to a second goal for Brentford, but was bailed out by Sanchez. Potentially could have had a shot on goal but decided to square it to so. Too easily beaten in the build-up to Wissa’s goal but made up for it when he found the bottom corner of the net with a brilliant shot in additional time. Has struggled with Henry’s pace. 6.
Cristian Romero: The joint vice-captain opened the scoring with a brilliant header – which proved to be his last involvement after he was taken off due to his earlier head knock. 6.
Micky van de Ven: The Dutchman has looked composed at the back. Unfortunate to toe the ball into his own net. 6.
Destiny Udogie: Did well to cover to take the ball off the toe of the Brentford player to deny a clear shot on goal. 7.
Oliver Skipp: Preferred over Sarr, aside from winning the ball back on the halfway line five minutes before the break, has done little to influence matters. Booked. 5.
Yves Bissouma: Playing as the deeper of the midfield pairing, has looked to get things moving. 6.
James Maddison: Has often lead the line with Tottenham’s high press on Brentford’s defence. Whipped a brilliant-free kick into the box for Romero’s goal. Also booked for protesting. 7.
Dejan Kulusevski: Has had a decent amount of touches, but has been unable to impact the goal. 5.
Richarlison: Had barely touched the ball. 5.
Heung-min Son: Wearing the captain’s armband and conceded a penalty after 23 minutes when he caught the ankle of Hickey. With a better first touch, he could have had a shot on goal from Royal’s pass. Looks isolated out wide. Lashed a shot off target in additional time. 5.
Davinson Sanchez: Can count himself lucky when he switched off for a second which nearly led to a Brentford goal. Did brilliantly well after Royal’s error gifted the opposition a chance on goal and tracked back to block the shot. Booked for a heavy challenge and moments later another lapse of concentration gave Wissa the space to score. 5.

The result came just a day after Tottenham’s all-time leading scorer completed his £100m move to Bayern Munich.
Emerson Royal’s first-half stoppage-time equaliser ensured Spurs avoided losing without Kane after Brentford had come from behind to lead 2-1.
Cristian Romero scored the first goal of the Postecoglou era to give Spurs an 11th-minute lead.
But new Spurs captain Heung-Min Son fouled Mathias Jensen inside the box to allow Bryan Mbeumo to equalise from the spot in the 26th minute.
Son and Richarlison both had good second-half chances to win it for Spurs but Postecoglou’s side had to settle for a point.
It is another London derby for Brentford as they visit fellow west Londoners Fulham on Saturday; kick off 3pm.
On the same day, Postecoglou takes charge of his first competitive Spurs home game as they host Manchester United in a 5.30pm kick-off, live on Sky Sports.
