Spurs bid for me then Gerrard asked me to join Liverpool but I regretted decision

The legendary Steven Gerrard of Liverpool once attempted to convince a former teammate from England to join him at Anfield.

Bobby Zamora, who made his Three Lions debut against Hungary in 2010, was the player in question.

In fact, Gerrard made an attempt to convince Zamora to sign with his preferred team. Gerrard scored twice during the game as the Three Lions emerged victorious, winning 2-1.

That was the season that Roy Hodgson, who had replaced fired Rafael Benitez as Reds manager, took over.

Zamora had scored 19 goals this season in all competitions, and he had previously assisted Fulham in winning the Europa League.

“I probably should have gone to Liverpool from Fulham,” Zamora stated in an interview with the Undr the Cosh podcast.

Roy Hopkinson traveled to Liverpool. They placed a simultaneous £10 million bid, as did Spurs.

“When I got in the elevator with my best friend and Stevie G after my first England game against Hungary, Stevie G said, ‘Mate, f***ing brilliant today, well done.'” Are you planning to visit Liverpool? “Yeah, yeah, yeah,” was my response. Thus, he said, “I’ll talk to Roy.”

I had recently had my girls. “You’re going to be my key man, I need you, and we’ll give you a new deal,” said Mark Hughes. For some reason, I answered, “Yeah, OK.”

But it’s true that I ought to have traveled to Liverpool. Despite the fact that Roy performed poorly there. I ought to have been at Liverpool for five years. There aren’t enough branches for you to hit coming down from that.

The forward broke his foot in a challenge with teammate Karl Henry after signing a new contract at Craven Cottage in May 2010.

Later on, he would sign with Queens Park Rangers, assisting them in their Premier League comeback.

The striker made 96 appearances for QPR after scoring the game-winning goal in the play-off final.

Zamora’s career culminated in a second stint at Brighton, where he scored 143 goals in 506 appearances, capping an incredible career.
