Son Heung-min exit ‘already underway’ with Tottenham primed to lose two icons back-to-back

Hugo Lloris and Son Heung-min, two modern-day club legends, are reportedly on the verge of departing Tottenham in successive summer transfer windows.

For Spurs, who earlier on Tuesday finally found a new permanent manager, this summer is going to be very important.

Lloris’ form has nosedived in recent seasons, though for the vast bulk of his time in England he was among the Premier League’s finest stoppers.

The South Korea international, 30, endured a sub-par season this year. His mark of 10 league goals was his lowest since his debut season at Spurs in 2015/16.

Hopes are high the attacking style of football Postecoglou will implement can bring the best back out of Son. However, according to CBS Sports reporter Ben Jacobs, next season may be Son’s last at Tottenham.

His current contract doesn’t expire until 2025, though per Jacobs, a move to Saudi Arabia could be on the cards in the summer of 2024.

Son transfer “already underway”

Jacobs tweeted: “Can also reveal Tottenham’s Son Heung-min is a Saudi target for 2024 and legwork already underway.”

The reporter concluded by saying Son to Saudi Arabia is “one to keep an eye on.”

Son will turn 31 in July and as such, will be 32 come the start of the 2024/25 campaign.

While it may seem unthinkable now, Tottenham may well be receptive to cashing in on Son at that stage, especially if a big-money bid is lodged from Saudi Arabia.

Jacobs did not detail which specific club would move for Son, though acknowledged it’s likely to be one of four.

Al Ittihad, Al Ahli, Al Nassr, and Al Hilal have all recently come under the umbrella of Saudi’s Public Investment Fund and that quartet are expected to be the ones signing the highest profile stars.

Cristiano Ronaldo is already at Al Nassr, while Lionel Messi is wanted by Al Hilal. Karim Benzema was recently unveiled by Al Ittihad who are competing with Al Nassr for Chelsea’s N’Golo Kante.

The biggest names in European football moving to the Saudi Pro League is a trend that will only get stronger from here on out.
